Perspectives in American Literature - A Research and Reference Guide
This online book is organized in chapters and appendices. The ten chapters represent the major literary and historical perspectives, cycles, or movements in American literature; each chapter has an Introduction, a Selected Bibliography, and a list of representative authors. The twenty-two appendices cover a range of helpful and specialized topics in genre studies, writing assignments, research topics, and perspectives related to American studies. Over 430 American
authors are included.
This site provides an overview of American literature from the Colonial Period to the Postmodern Period. It includes a time-line, primary sources, and secondary courses for each distinctive era of American literature. A site-based Scavenger Hunt on Romanticism, Realism, and Naturalism in American Fiction is also included.
