Writing with Writers
The Scholastic website provides students with an opportunity to work with real-life writers whom have collaborated with Scholastic to create an online activity that allows students a chance to write a book review, myth, newsarticle, and/or descriptive writing for publication.
Through a self-paced and written instruction, students are taught by real-world writers how to write for publication. They are given clear, explicit instruction and examples of how to write for a specific purpose. This website could be used in various ways: enrichment for strong writers, practice for those students who need motivating to write through "cool tools", or ways to show off exemplary writing in your classroom. Because there is explicit instruction text to guide students, these activities can be used independently of the whole class. Also it is a resource on the internet and doesn't have to be used just at school; students can work from any location that provides internet services.
