Teachers often face the difficult question in traditional classrooms, “Do you care enough about me to teach me?” Students’ basic social and emotional needs must be fulfilled prior to teaching and learning. Because of COVID-19, we face the notion that traditional classrooms are of the past. Therefore, the question becomes even more challenging due to the transition to virtual classrooms. How do teachers know they are meeting those needs, today? Teachers should acquire best practices and effective strategies in meeting students’ social and emotional needs, which should promote an optimal virtual classroom experience and educational equity for all students.
