MEASURING MEASUREMENT

An introduction to customary and metric units of measurement. Students will first learn history behind measurement, conversions of time, weight, length, and capacity for both customary and metric units of measurement.  There are hands on activities, and immediate feedback problems as well as an on-line converter to check work. This website is a good introduction lesson for metric and customary units of measurement. This website is useful for a beginning teacher, an inclusion teacher, or as a review before discussion of changing quantities while measuring.

Objective: 

  • The students will change length measurements by jumping and throwing objects and measuring the distance between the starting point and the ending point.
  • Student will be able to compare and measure the capacities of assorted containers by using units of cups, pints, quarts, and gallons.
