Creating a Persuasive Podcast
This lesson expands upon students' basic persuasive speaking and research skills. First, students research a local, state, national, or international issue of personal interest. During five class sessions, students use multiple online news sources to research up-to-date information that helps them form and communicate their opinions about the issue; practice working with podcasting tools; and create and share a two-minute persuasive podcast in class. This lesson allows students the opportunity to choose a topic of personal interest as well as narrow the topic so it is manageable and focused. The student will gather information from both electronic sources, several of which are provided under the "Research & Preparation" tab, and print sources available in the school or local library. If having the students create a podcast is not an option for you, then student could perhaps record (audio or video) their speech or simply present their findings to the class.
