NewsWordy and Paragraphy (bell work)

Bell work still exists and is a valuable component of the successful classroom environment. Beef up "daily dozen" or "take five" review/extension activities by taking using interactive. Students walk in ready to learn so engage them without your assistance. This frees the instructor up to differentiate instruction or help those that were absent the day before or the empty tanks - the ones that haven't quite mastered a skill or they need to ask you one on one questions. Save time by assessing the knowledge at the beginning of the class and keep pacing on track by using one of these resources.

Teach your students to get with it by having things ready to go using engaging instructional interactive websites. Be prepared for down time, extensions, or inquiry based questions with awesome interactive fillers with a click on the mouse.

  • Newswordy - increase student vocabulary using buzzwords that are frequently used in news media. These are words that do not typically occur in everyday speech, but are common among newscasters, talking heads, and pundits on cable news.

  • Paragraphy was designed to help my students practice answering questions about sentence order within paragraphs. I grew weary of rearranging paragraphs and asking students to find the topic sentence. Paragraphy was born. Simply type in a sentence (or copy/paste) and paragraphy will pull out each sentence and randomly reorder them for you.

example below- Copy and paste or create from scratch a paragraph - such as the paragraph one - paragraph randomizes the paragraph making students order or sequence sentences in the correct order.
