Hunting the Elements with David Pogue
David Pogue hosts an informative and humorous two-hour whirlwind tour of the periodic table, searching for the elements anywhere he can find them: in laboratories, museums, factories, mines and more. Teachable topics in the video include atomic structure, atomic weight, noble gases, radioactivity, foundations of organic chemistry, chemical reactions between elements and features of metals vs. non-metals.
The video is centered around the periodic table, and can be used to familiarize students with many elements, where they're found in the natural world, and how their characteristics and properties are represented within it. Each element featured in Hunting the Elements is presented with the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons, and explains how its stucture imparts its characteristics.
