Clouds and Weather
This video, which features original stop-motion animation, is a fun way for children to learn about different types of clouds and their relationship to weather. It encourages young children to develop their powers of observation, an important component of the scientific method. After seeing the video, children can watch for cloud patterns in the sky and observe what these clouds signal about weather changes.
Although this video is an animation and is phrased for younger children, it can be useful for third grade students who still have difficulty in relating cloud types to specific weather conditions. The "Teaching Tips" tab expands to include vocabulary and activities to help students understand the concepts by participating in hands-on work. There is also a background essay for the teacher. Teachers must register to use teachersdomain.org, but registration is free and quick.
