Phonological Awareness: Instructional and Assessment Guidelines
This article provides a brief overview of phonological and phonemic awareness and its part in the alphabetic principle, addresses misconceptions, and presents research-based guidelines and examples for teaching and assessing phonological awareness.
Intended for the kindergarten and first grade teacher, the article translates recent research on measures for phonological awareness into classroom practice, and can in turn help them identify progress in developing phonological skills.
