Mentor Texts for Teaching Writing Traits
This website offers a list of mentor texts for teaching the traits of writing. It directs teachers toward children's literature that can help students demonstrate elements of the writer's craft.
Using mentor texts allows students the opportunity to investigate elements of the writer's craft. It also provides them with a text that students may compare or observe how to develop their writing based on the traits of writing. Through this development of understanding of writer's craft, students will begin to apply the skills to write in a variety of modes while differentiating for the audience and determining the purpopse. This will allow students to develop and strengthen their craft of writing.
