Avoiding Comma Splices, Fused Sentences, and Run-ons
This resource provides visuals regarding combining sentences correctly. It identifies problems with sentence combinations and then shows ways to correct them. Visuals enhance this resource by giving illustrations of poorly combined sentences using cars and stop signs. It addresses compound and complex sentences as well as the use of conjunctive adverbs and semicolons. (This resource categorizes run-ons as a sentence with a coordinating conjunction but no comma, while a fused sentence is a sentence with no punctuation or conjunction. A teacher may decide to lump them both as run-on sentences.)
This resource can be used to teach combining sentences in a visual manner.
