Sound Beats
This simulation and graphing activity will allow students to determine the frequency conditions that are necessary to create sound beats with two tuning forks. Students then observe the sine waves created by the tuning forks and analyze the equations and the interference pattern. Further investigations and questions are included in the activity.Â
This activity addresses the Physics CLE by investigating concepts of frequency, period, amplitude, interference, and equations of waves in a visual and graphical manner. Students have ample opportunities to investigate and practice wave concepts through this simulation. Through using a simple example of tuning forks, students will be able to transfer their understanding to more complex wave systems.
