Explore a Model of Earth's Yearly Revolution Around the Sun
This animation allows students to observe the amounts of sunlight on different parts of the Earth as it revolves around the sun. It can be paused so students can make better observations about the seasons at different times of the year.
Students can better visualize the affects of the tilt of the Earth on its axis in regards to the amount of sunlight on different parts of Earth. They can compare the amount of sunlight the Northern and Southern Hemispheres receive at different times of the year, particularly March, June, September, and December. A discussion of the seasons in each Hemisphere can follow from the observations.
