Explore a Model of Earth's Daily Rotation
This visualization allows students to observe the rotation of the Earth and the resulting daylight and darkness. The animation can be paused to better allow students to make observations.
Students use this animation to observe the rotation of the Earth at equinox. They can use it to determine sunrise, noon, sunset, and midnight. They can also compare the distance around the equator and the poles to discover the difference in time it takes for a place to travel one rotation on each of them.
