Fun with the Sun- Sunbeams
The Fun in the Sun Activity Guide was developed by National Renewable Energy Laboratory. It contains several activities related to energy and renewable/nonrenewable sources of energy. The activity that focuses on this GLE is "Sunbeams" found beginning on page 9. It is appropriate to use an introductory lesson about the sun being the source of energy and as a formative assessment.
This lesson is appropriate to introduce the concept that all energy comes from the sun. It contains background information for the teacher. Students discuss examples of energy relating the idea that it comes from the sun. A sun mobile is made using suggestions. Using students' ideas and explanations strengthen the activity by serving as a formative assessment. Templates for the sun and sunbeams are included in the activity.
