Physlets: Optics
Several links to physlets (Java applets constructed to teach principles of physics). Two are specific to lenses: Image Formation by a Converging Lens, Image Formation by a Diverging Lens. One is specific to mirrors: Image Formation by a Diverging Mirror. The Geometric Optics physlet allows for combinations of lenses and mirrors using either a point source or parallel beam of light.
Simulations of lenses and mirrors allow the students to experience how the manipulation of variables such as object distance and focal length change the image. Converging and diverging lenses and mirrors may be compared and contrasted.
