Fostering Reading Comprehension and Retention
The K12 Reader website provides reading instruction resources for teachers and parents. A variety of literacy topics are addressed such as balanced literacy, content area reading, grammar reference, phonemic awareness, phonics, reading comprehension, reading fluency, sentence types and teaching sight words. Worksheets, games and activities, book lists, and other resources are offered.
Fostering Reading Comprehension and Retention is a webpage on the K12 Reader website that addresses one of the most complex mental activities we can engage in -- reading. The page offers a core set of varied strategies and stresses the importance of explicit modeling from both teachers and parents. It also emphasizes practicing these strategies with a variety of texts in different settings (whole class, guided reading groups, and one-on-one at home).
