Making Informational Text Accessible
This link is for a professional development handout from Reading Recovery that helps elementary teachers understand how and why to teach informational text. It explains that we should help students learn to read as they are also reading to learn, and specific teaching strategies are provided.
A bulleted list of strategies to use with informational text begins on page eight. A suggested list of informational text trade book titles and authors begins on page twelve. The first few sections of the handout would be especially helpful to a teacher who is unfamiliar with the informational text genre.
