Building Research Skills
This resource contains several instructional strategies to help students strengthen their research skills before embarking on an in-depth research project. Six tips for research projects (e.g., interviewing peers before starting to write/research, using primary sources) are included after the strategies.
The focus of each of these strategies is to help students build research skills and connect to Social Studies content, such as Ancient Sumer, Greek culture, and the Salem Witch trials for upper grades. These strategies would work as a jump-start to your full research unit, or you could use one strategy each quart or semester to gradually familiarize students with research terms and concepts.
