One Last Question...
One Last Question is simple. The teacher asks a question verbally or writes it on the board just as class is ending, Students take 60 seconds to jot down a response on a piece of scrap paper and turn it in as they leave the room.
This quick activity provides a valuable formative assessment function: to what degree did the students "get" the main point or the crucial point of the lesson?
The questions will generate critical thinking about a specific concept covered in a lesson and reinforce to the student certain essential points.
Â
Implementation
- Generate a question that promotes critical/further thinking related to the topic of the lesson.
- At the end of the lesson, present this question to the students and have them write their responses.
- Collect the responses and allow them to inform your instruction.
- Be sure to address any major problem areas in class during the next session.
Â
Classroom Management
Use this frequently, and be sure to let students know you read them and change/ improve the lessons based on their feedback.
This can also be valuable for improving a lesson quickly between one period and the next.
