Probability Explorations

In this two lesson unit, students will explore theoretical and experimental probability and the relationship between them. Students will also graph an experiment to further explore the relationship according to the law of large numbers. This provides an actual hands on activity that can be done in a couple of class times in order to completely cover the task.

Demonstrate how to make a stem-and-leaf plot with the data from all the groups. Guide the students as they display and analyze their position within the table, as well as the general tendency of their group.

  • Small Circular Plastic Tops (1 per student)
  • Felt tip pens
  • Large Sheets of White Paper
  • Skeins of Yarn (1 per group)
