Squirrelly Behavior
In this activity, students will be exposed to animal behavior as a field of science. They will learn how a behavior watch provides structure to the inherently interesting activity of watching animals. Students on a behavior watch will practice skills such as patience, concentration, and perseverance. They will learn to identify a research question, develop a testable hypothesis, design a study, follow a protocol to make observations, analyze data, and discuss their results. Students will observe the behavior of squirrels. This lesson could be extended by using their observations to determine how their behavior affects their ability to survive.
