Vocabulary in Context

This unit provides three lessons for teaching vocabulary in context.  Strategies are given for helping students to determine the meaning of a word within a text.  Included in the plans are instructions  direct teaching, think check, guided practices, and independent practice.  It also provides ideas for building vocabulary,  building student background knowledge, and extension ideas. Teacher and student materials are printable, but you must register to create a free account. In this unit, lessons include contrasting statements to determine the meaning of an unknown word, using appositives to determine the meaning of an unknown word, and using a dictionary to determine the meaning of an unknown word.
