Dear Peter Rabbit

From Learn NC comes this Grade 3-4 lesson plan using Alma Flor Ada's fictional picture book Dear Peter Rabbit as the prompt for students to learn about, see examples of, then develop their own friendly letters. This lesson plan provides an opportunity for students to read and analyze a series of friendly letters in their familiar fictional format...and with their familiar fictional characters.  After a review of a friendly letter's elements and conventions found in Dear Peter Rabbit and in similar books, students should be able to create rough drafts of their own friendly letters.  Teachers should guide students' usage and purpose of their friendly letter as they familiarize themselves with the organizational and writing process.
