Photosynthesis Rate Lab
This is a lab activity using the common aquatic plant Elodea. Students use a piece of the plant along with some baking soda to measure the rate of photosynthesis by the amount of bubbles produced. Students compare the rate of photosynthesis under direct light to the rate under very low light. This activity could be completed in a relatively short amount of class time or be assigned as an enrichment activity. This activity requires students to understand the reaction of photosynthesis and what drives it. It directly relates to the u201cchecku201d of conducting experiments to investigate photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
