Some Similarities between the Spread of an Infectious Disease and Population Growth

This activity from the Serendip website simulates the spread of an infectious disease. Simulations are wonderful for demonstrating real biological process. This simulation will show how an infectious disease can spread from one infected person to other people, who in turn infect others. This process is then directly related to population growth. This activity allows students to participate in a wonderful simulation of population growth as they watch the spread of an infectious disease. Students are introduced to the idea of exponential and logistic growth. The activities from this website are quite reliable and very thorough teacher preparation notes are always provided. The notes for this particular activity can be found at: http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/sci_edu/waldron/pdf/InfectiousDiseaseTeachP...
