Pedigree Analysis: It Runs in the Family
This lesson introduces pedigree symbols and how to construct pedigrees. A pedigree is simply a family tree that uses a particular set of standardized symbols. The materials also highlight how pedigrees are used by disease researchers to inform patients and families of genetic diseases. This site has good fundamental information on how to construct pedigrees and how to interpret them. Students will gain experience in using genetic information to construct pedigrees and through probing questions, students will see that understanding and using pedigree information is not always clear cut.
