Nuclear Fusion: The Starmakers

This resource, produced by the European Fusion Development Agreement, is a complete and detailed overview of nuclear fusion which, in addition to contrasting it with nuclear fission, provides everything from atomic-level simulations to technological solutions currently under development to build a useful fusion reactor through international cooperative efforts. Students are asked to compare and contrast nuclear fission and fusion. To do so, they must have an accurate model on the atomic level for both processes. This site focuses on fusion, and provides several simulations of the fusion process on an atomic level, as well as simulations of the fission process for comparison purposes. A wealth of background information on nuclear fusion is provided, such as the economic and environmental benefits that would result is sustainable nuclear fusion technologies are developed.
