Volcanoes Of The Deep
This PBS NOVA Teachers classroom activity prompts students to explore, research and classify symbiotic relationship between different species. Though the activity is associated with NOVA's Volcanoes of the Deep episode, the activity itself does not require viewing the associated video, but it does ask students to research examples of symbiosis in their school library. As students research and classify examples and types of symbiosis, they should be able to explain the examples they have researched and compare them to those researched by other student groups. Pairing this activity with an oral or written show-and-tell might lay the groundwork for an inquiry-based assessment of symbiotic relationships.
