Teaching Conventions in Context: Author's Craft Study
The Scholastic Website provides resources for teachers, parents, kids, administrators, librarians and more with the goal of promoting literacy. Although this resource comes from a 4th grade teacher, the contextual method in which she teaches conventions can be used at any grade level. Utilizing mentor texts, observing students as they write, analyzing their writing samples, asking inferential why questions are methods of teaching that are research based and applicable across grade levels and content areas. In addition, this method supports differentiated instruction.
