Fostering collaborative professionalism through a partnership with REL Appalachia - Margie Johnson, Vicky Smith

Research demonstrates the positive effect collaboration has on supporting student success. Of course, fostering a culture of collaborative professionalism is easier said than done. Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) has been on a 4-year journey of fostering a culture of collaborative professionalism. This session will provide participants with practical tips, tricks, tools, and lessons learned.

Incorporating HELP in the ESL Endorsement - Sarah Sandefur

Effective professional development for pre-service and in-service teachers requires innovations in design, implementation, management, and evaluation.  Through Teachers HELP (Helping English Language Proficiency), UTC collaborated with the Tennessee Department of Education and six school systems to assist teachers in completing the endorsement for teaching English as a Second Language. The presenter will share successes and challenges for Teachers HELP which provided accelerated coursework in a summer academy with intensive mentoring/coaching through school-based Professional Learning Communities.
